I am a figurative painter, born in Italy and raised between Rome and New York, I currently work and live in Munich. I am predominantly drawn to portraiture, taking reference from pictures of people I know as well as strangers. I am fascinated by the secret intensity of neutral or subtle expressions.
While I am anchored to representing my subject as a real source, I welcome the incursion of aimless elements in my works, such as floating shapes, raw sketches, misplaced objects or animals. Figurative art requires an intense focus on perception, an almost meditative awareness of what the eye sees and what the mind wants it to see. I like to shift between this state of concentration and the playfulness of abstractionism and surrealism. I enjoy a great deal of freedom and spontaneity in my creative process, which is why I predominantly use mixed media in my works such as watercolour, oil, acrylic, pens, graphite, gouache and digital techniques.
