Balthazar Mattar is a London based artist who creates figurative surreal work that explores the ambiguity of human relationships.
For the stroke 2025 edition he is debuting a brand new collection of paintings that demonstrate a significant conceptual and technical evolution in his practice. Made using ink, acrylic and emulsion paint on canvas, these new pieces have a dream quality showing shadowy figures moving across uncanny, iridescent landscapes. Ambiguous and surreal, the work can be interpreted as unsettling but also soothing, evoking a space that is contemplative yet ambiguous.
He has participated in art fairs across the UK and Europe, and regularly mounts solo exhibitions in London.
