I come from a illustrative background in the graphic arts, yet have always been fascinated by tactile possibility and cabinets of curiosity. I have just had my first book published called ‘Out of The Box’ – a celebration all about assemblage, the significance of found things and the lost art of collecting in an increasingly cyber world. This study also helped me understand my own creative practice, my attraction to the process of cause and effect, the union and collision of putting together unlikely objects. My latest project uses discarded plates as illustrative storyboards, highlighted within bespoke crafted box frames. I love the random abandon of this process as you’re never quite sure which direction the narrative might go, nuanced by the patterns, hues, textures or accidental imperfections of the original ceramic. The framing of the plate is also integral as it provides a stopping point, a perfect stage in which to freeze frame and accentuate the story within. As well as absurdity of modern life there are also a number of developing themes such as imaginary dystopian future worlds and a series of infinite rolling Tires!
